CHRONICLES OF GLASS HEART

CHRONICLES

AGE OF DREAMS - Starts with the creation of life in Pinacuhzoma, when the Entities subjugated the Gods. An Ancient time, before the rise of the Hero upon the world of Glass Heart, detailing the birth of the dynamics between Elves, Humans and Silxx, and explaining the unification of man with the birth of the Sultanate Empire.

THE AGE OF THE HERO - This era may only spawn for 27 years, yet for that brief time, the world was graced with the arrival of the Hero, a legendary figure that would forever be considered the apex of the specimen among the High Races. Such came all to a climax, The War of Light and Dark, that the Hero Single Handedly triumphed.

There are two main chronicles about the Age of the Hero:
- Eyes Like Star , detailing the story of Zaffiro Re'shelia Baranastre, the Hero, and her contribution in the War of Light and Dark, including her defeat of the Ravenous King Legion and the Original Darkness
- Crawling Chaos , is a parallel story about the eccentric figure Apoc Aimivol and his exploration of the Hidden Cities, places that weren't supposed to exist any longer...

THE AGE OF STARS -A new age of stability after the War of Light and Dark, but also of stagnation, as the High Races sought to one up themselves for a second coming of the Hero. It ends with the War of Nightfall.
- Demon General , a tragic tale of betrayal starring Captain Zell, an Earthless long thought to be human, who would turn his back on the Empire who raised him and became the dreaded the King Slayer.
- Like a Hero , The adventures of Ankoku Yami, a willful soul who sought to follow Zaffiro's path and become a hero like her, but would be met with the sad fact of how reality is an harsh mistress as he sees the peace Zaffiro worked so hard for slowly unravel

THE AGE OF NIGHTFALL

THE AGE OF THE UNIVERSE

MAGIC

Magic is a glitch of the ordered system of the world, which people with specific souls may be able to resonate with. Magic is thus an outer source of power people can tap into and, because of it, there is no theoretical upper limit in how much someone can manipulate such error.

However, due to its complexity, there has been a more widespread use of ARTIFACTS, objects made of a material called animum that have 'pre-made magic'. Given most artifacts are incomplete, however, there is

One of the most common to access, yet most difficult to master types of magic is the Evocative Magic, caused from the resonance between multiple souls. This way people may affect each other's minds, as well as souls (heavily discouraged due to the effects of a soul being strained). The highest form of Evocative Magic is called 'Magical Hijacking', which involves tuning with a soul to be able to use their magic.

There are theories on the possibility of mixing the two magic to create what is temptively called Archetypical Magic, which would require resonating with the universe to manipulate more abstract concepts, but it's currently viewed as nothing but nonsense. People who have claimed to be able to manipulate things such as Reality, Law, Truth or the definition of Concepts in general have been unable to hold a consistent sway and have had their mind shattered in the process.

ELEMENTAL MAGIC

The most famous type of magic. A person's soul is normally predisposed to have access normally to only one of the ten elements of nature. To achieve a second element is possible but may irreparably damage your soul and shatter your mind.

Elements are divided in three categories

  • The Natural Element, as clearly visible in the material plane (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind ),

  • The Spectral Elements, called so for their representation as 'spectres' on physical planes (Sound, Light, Electro-Magnetism, Gravity),

  • The so called Super Elements for not having properties matching neither natural nor spectral elements (Organic Tissues, Plasma).

SOULS

Souls, defined as "the purest rawest essence of a person", or at least the projection of a soul, can only be percieved by using powder of Animum, a translucent element common in this world, and magnetic fields to map out a person's soul.

Through these studies, it's been theorized a soul is made out of four types of strings: three that define a person's nature composed of Body, Intelligence and Will, while the fourth known as Knowledge represents the instances of enlightenment of an individual.

Another important characteristic of a soul is its SCOPE, the level of influence a person's soul holds on the world (charisma, knowledge, inner balance). An average soul usually has a scope the size of a closed fist, with some exceptional one being the size of a torso, although there are legends of individuals whose influence was far greater. There is speculation a person's scope can potentially grow ad infinitum, with no upper limit known.

In Glass Heart, the bizzare arts of Magic don't require a mana system, a person can theorically cast as many spells as they want, but have three specific limits:

1) The high mental strain on having to perform multiple equations in your mind to regulate magic

2) The required presence of a medium to channel your magic through

3) The backfiring if you have performed wrong equations and your magic goes out of control.

Due to the effects a soul can have on the universe, there is a 'shield' to avoid a person's soul to mutate their body which we call Mind, that allows us to view the world as an ordered system, besides the awareness and manipulation of the glitch we call magic To perform different magics besides the one we are disposed of, however, different wavelengths are drawn that seep past the mind. This is what is called the Strain of a Soul. Mental disorders are the traditional side effects, but there have been cases such strain have impacted a person on a genetic level. Thus the existence of the Ensouled Ones .

THE WORLD OF GLASS HEART

PINACUHZOMA

Glass Heart is a planet a far galactic cluster. At first supposed to be a world where life could never exist, the tampering of Cosmic entities spun what some may either consider a world brimming with life or a festering gangrenous wound in the universe.

The majority of the stories chronicled of Glass Heart take place in its biggest continent, PINACUHZOMA, that is divided in such main settings.

HUMAN SETTLEMENTS - ruled by a Sultanate Empire. Among the four main biggest cities, the capital , Ahuitzotl the Golden, is set nearby the coast, on the east of the Forest of Mazes and is the core of main activities especially due to the Road of Yeliztli , the road of lava stone created during the fight between the Hero and the Immortal God of Death Starke.

The other main cities are the ones which hold the three Great Academies named after them, Nequit, Tezca and Hueliti. Since their inception that was heralded by a long gone secret society, the three Academies have been built back alongside Silxxes and Elves allowing people to create a far more diverse and more varied way of teaching, creating even creating a unique special class, the Quetzalit: a year long woldwide tour to allow the elite students to study across the entire continent and visit every land.

ELVEN SETTLEMENTS, divided in a bunch of tribes in a long standing yet precarious balance, are mostly set in The Forest of Mazes, a cursed rainforest whose form constantly shifts. Because of the eldritch nature of the forest, there are places where the forest grows, spreading in unpredictable patterns. Because of this, the culture of mushroom is quite widespread among elves, for cooking, crafting of poisons as well as more recreational purposes.

Nearby a tree so big you can create buildings out of the roots, we have the most important Elven village is called the Entanglement, house of the highest religious figure of Pinacuhzoma, the High Priest of the Verse live. Elven settlements are built to test a person's physique and quickness on feet: only the strongest can access every area of the village. No wonder Elves are one of the least popular races in Pinacuhzoma.

SILXX SETTLEMENT - A long time ago, the forest used to be much bigger but, several millennia ago, a shower of meteors came down upon it and, due to them being mostly made of salt, not only destroyed permanently the vegetation, but turned it into a sterile desert with no chance of return, and this is the Desert known as Me Rah Zahd, Silxx for 'Rain of Stars'. This is where the Silxxes (presumably) come from and the reason as to why Elves don’t like them.

Since then, the desert has been occasionally covered in mysterious alloys of metal which the Silxxes always scavenge and a few metal mines to take as many minerals as possible. Roughly at the outskirts of the desert, there is the Hive of the Silxxes, called Sli’skad’n, The Ten Pointed Star, a massive structure of Metal in constant expansion, and often rebuilt, there Silxxes have a constant harmony to the point they are able to perceive strangers due to their pace of steps being different from any Silxx. This view is far more futuristic looking than the ones you'd expect

DOKKALFAR SETTLEMENTS, the Dark Elves have mostly been confined on the north, under the Mountain Chain of Lolth, in a city they call Psyon. The road is sealed and so far, no member of the High Races knows how to reach this place unless allowed by a Dokkalfar. Like Elves, there is a culture of mushrooms, in particular special fungi called Bright Sewers to create light and make special spells and make artifacts, making a rather unique form of black Market. If only Dokkalfar weren't so unreliable…

EARTHLESS SETTLEMENT - After the destruction of their old island Flamel, the Earthless live inside Caduceus, the Corpse Island crafted from the carcass monstrous being known as Typhonis. Because of the careening living condition, they are constant threats because of their raids across the continents

MAIN RELIGIONS

  • THE VERSE - a rather straightforward region, not to say one of the most widespread, having over two third of the words as followers. The Verse sees the universe as a unique, giant being, with us being thoughts of his. To make sure everything is balanced, everyone has to develop the nature of good presents in them and spread it to the world. The four main festivities are the two solstices and the two equinoxes, celebrated with a large fair, and the 'Day of the Hero', the day The Hero defeated the Original Darkness, concluding the war between the Ensouled Ones and the High Races. The Main Temple is in the Forest of the Mazes, with an Elf being the current High Priest, holding as much religious as political authority.

  • THE EYES OF THE VERSE - A Silxx Variant of the Verse, which says that Silxxes come from actually another planet. Because of this, Silxxes have been building a spaceship from where they will travel through the star to speak with the Verse itself to gather ultimate knowledge.

  • THE CULT OF THE ROOT - a quickly spreading religion born through a specific elite hierarchy of the three races, the Semper Iubilantes, most renown for having somehow formed a theory disproving the presence of magic as a natural thing in the world, silencing the High Priest of the Verse in the process, and formulating the theory that Magic is caused by an evil deity: the ‘The Root of all Evil’, a creature which created magic through discord and evil. Overall, this misotheist religion has gathered a relatively large following with the purpose to gather an ultimate order to repel the Root under every form of it aside its basic content (life). While the use of natural magic is not allowed, Artifacts are widely used, being seen as something natural

  • THE WORLD OF THE ROOT - exclusive to the Dokkalfar , celebrating a colossal Entity capable of changing matter as the Root itself, and them being their humblest servants and spreaders of chaos.

  • KRAMPUS OF REDEMPTION - A weird figure, which has been sadly demonized. Krampus of Redemption is a deity that resembles with demonic looks devoid of any malice, rather being the God who is going to give the Earthless a second chance to be part of society and be treated respectfully.

RACES

CELESTIAL ONES

The Celestial Ones, are beings that exist beyond our current definition of life and are either creators or administrators of existence in its infinite layered structure

EN̝̦̱̰̳͜T̯̜̙͖̭̺̱IT̥̥I̝̳͎̰E̝̟S̺ - Eldritch archetypes and essences of chaos manifesting as an eternally changing system throughout eternity. Their interaction with the world makes life exist. They cannot be killed or even stopped, only reasoned with, and their reason is the same as complete madness because of not seeing the world as a linear stream of events because of their transtemporal nature. They aren’t innately malevolent, but their capabilities to exist as both dead and alive, and sane or insane, as well as beyond it, makes them indifferent to a mortal’s status. Mortal Souls are actually avatars of Entities clad into more ordered layers, thus creating living beings. There is an Entity for each living organism that has ever existed, although only a smaller fraction has been identified.

DEITIES - Deities are manifestations of spiritual phenomena, at times being able to even have a physical body. Unlike the entities, deities act within predetermined schemes and are static throughout their existence, and are therefore mindless and unreasonable. This said, while extraordinarily powerful, they can be beaten and stopped by destroying the construct they inhabit. However, such does not permanently kill them. It requires to completely alter the physic law on a wide scale to mutate them and permanently eliminate them.

GIANTS - Giants are the original race, resembling aquatic apes. Skeletons have reached several tens of meters, however, they have been extinguished when the sea levels were lowered. If there are any survivors, they rest deep down in the abyss, and have yet to be seen by any High Race or Ensouled One

I am an entity myself, btw~

HIGH RACES

The three ruling races of the continent of Pinacuhzoma (main setting of most stories)

HUMANS - The most magically enlightened race, as well as the most curious and adaptable, despite being physically the weakest. Renowned for their awfully high libido, likely because of their low lifespan. Ever since the Age of the Hero, they are acknowledged as the the race de facto in charge of Pinacuhzoma.

ELVES -The race bearing the strongest body. Physically unpalled and borderline immortal, if not somewhat inclined to be savages. Used to be most race in charge until the losses of their main settlements in the Earthless First Invasion and the rise of the Human Race.

SILXXES - Silxxes are insect-like aliens that crash landed on Glass Heart. They possess a pseudo-hive mind, although are ruled by an oligarchy of their richest families, and are by far the most intelligent race, having been integrated through trading exchanges of their superior technology. Content of living in the desert and exerting power from a distance. They aren’t interested in ruling, only in keeping to themselves. There is no known case of a Silxx corrupted by magic: they die before it happens.

ENSOULED ONES

WARLOCK/WITCHES - a subrace of humans who begin to manifest slight physical changes because of their contact with magic. While kept under check, they seem the most harmless and are generally welcome in the society of the high races, likely because of humanity being in charge. To reproduce with a Warlock/Witch gives equal chances of the offspring being a Warlock/Witch or human.

DOKKALFAR - singular Dokkalfr, are ashen skinned elves, descendants of some elves who forced themselves to learn Magic. They are considerably more mentally unstable than their original kin, most of them being sociopaths. Because of their powers and cunning, they have been sealed inside a mountain, where they worship an Entity they have addressed as ‘The Root of all Evil’, and their current ruler, Migrena the Insane has been bound with since childhood with a spirit of unknown origins called Demiurge of Chaos

For an elf to reproduce with a Dokkalfr, the resulting child is more likely to be a Dokkalfr.

Despite their ill reputation, due to their skills they can be at times roaming around and the sanest one are even capable of keeping jobs on the surface. There are rumors that Humans have been conspiring with the Dokkalfar against Elves.

EARTHLESS - are magically induced mutants born with an unstable soul structure. The soul strain is such that the practitioner is no longer considered human, with the nervous system ordering the production of unique DNA quirks that completely alter a genetic makeup of a person. The name Earthless comes from them 'belonging to nothing'. To reproduce with an Earthless will only generate Earthless offsprings

Earthlesses are the race considered with the highest magical tuning, but also as the highest change to turn Ravenous

They are usually considered the greatest enemies of the High Races, having been involved in well over three worldwide conflicts against each other. Earthless have currently lost all three of them, and because of this have been exiled on Caduceus, the Corpse Island and are unwelcome on the mainland. However, they seem to be trying to living peacefully in their exile, between a tenuous rudimentary government and a religion led by the spiritual leader Demon Priest Abaddon) seeking to profess peace and tolerance. But can the greatest enemy of the world remain down?

RAVENOUS ONES - also known as Soul vampires, they are the final stage of someone who ends up corrupted by magic to the point the structure of the soul ‘breaks’. Even the animarium shows that the very manifestation of a soul has been changed to a form that seems to be akin to a rip at the core.

Their mutation, as well as their physical boost, is even more drastic than Earthless, but because of their broken soul, they are forced to feed constantly on others to make sure to keep their sanity together. How many souls they need to feed on regularly requires on their willpower, but ultimately no Ravenous One is able to escape their anger, as their intellect slowly deteriorates to a feral beast.

The ultimate rupture of a Soul, to the point. Ravenous Ones are parasitic in nature: to keep their soul balanced and not risk becoming completely maniacal and lose any rationality, they need to consume blood or flesh from people with a stable soul to be able to mimic their soul's stability. The more you are magically tuned, is your soul, the more is likely to become Ravenous, therefore in the following order, from the least likely to most likely

Silxx -> Elf -> Dokkalfar -> Human -> Sorcerer ->> Earthless

To this day, there is no known cure from becoming a Ravenous One besides death to release your soul away from the mortal coil.Thankfully they are sterile, so there is no chance of a Ravenous One having 'ravenous children'

The only attempt for people was to control was the development of the bio weapon Ravenous King Legion, an artificial homunculus capable of absorbing other souls to assimilate their traits and control the other Ravenous Ones through a special frequency of their brain related to their hunger, but he went out of control and was subsequently destroyed.
